  • The fact that so much medication in the US requires a prescription and a doctor's visit is a contributing factor to the high cost of health care in this country. A good contrast is Mexico.

  • @Stevie I somehow think native-born, english-speaking Americans can aspire to more than being a dishwasher at Chuys...even as a way to pay for college. Heck, be a waiter. It certainly pays better, and is a job that illegals aren't as qualified to do due to linguistic / cultural issues.

  • @Polka...that's called protectionism for American workers. The only difference between you and the guy advocating high import duties on imported products is that the product is labor, not something physical.

  • Every country has special relationships with the near abroad. We work differently with large trading partners than more distant countries. That's what Europe does, what Asia does, and what America does (through NAFTA).

  • Jensen, illegals who are in this country often don't have families much bigger than locals (around the world, people are having smaller families).

  • @Jim Comfort: Do illegals not pay sales tax? And, if you are worried about missing income tax revenue (which many pay on account of using fake ids to get normal jobs), wouldn't a legalization program solve your emergency room issue?
